Pětidiskový box set mapující Davidův raný vývoj v letech 1968 a 1969 prostřednictvím jeho domácích dem, rozhlasových relací pro BBC, studiových nahrávek s kytaristou Johnem 'Hutchem' Hutchinsonem a experimentální hudební a mimické skupiny Feathers. DAVID BOWIE - CONVERSATION PIECE obsahuje dvanáct dosud nevydaných skladeb/dem.
The BBC radio sessions on disc three are the highlight for me; the stripped-back guitar work with Hutchinson sounds amazing cleaned up. Five discs of 1968-69 material and not one feels like filler.
The home demos across these five discs are the real draw for me; hearing these early takes stripped down is something I didn't know I was missing. The Hutchison studio sessions hold up surprisingly well too, and the whole set feels thoughtfully sequenced rather than just dumped out.
The BBC radio sessions on disc three finally sound like something other than a bootleg, and the Hutch studio tracks show how fast the arrangements tightened up. Five discs of 1968-69 material and nothing feels padded.
