Oprindeligt udgivet i 2002 for at fejre deres 40-års jubilæum som band, var Forty Licks en kæmpe kommerciel succes med over 7 millioner solgte eksemplarer verden over.
Bredt anset som deres definitive karriereomspændende opsamlingsalbum, udgives Forty Licks på begrænset oplag som 4 x 180g farvet vinyl i en gatefold-pladekonvolut med bred ryg.
Wasn't sure the coloured vinyl would sound this clean, but side one of disc three is dead quiet with zero surface noise. Having all forty years spread across four LPs instead of crammed onto two makes a real difference on the quieter tracks.
The 180g pressing sounds fantastic, dead quiet between tracks with none of the surface noise I half expected from coloured vinyl. Four LPs of the hits spread out like this beats flipping a single disc every three songs.
Bought this mainly for the coloured vinyl and wasn't disappointed—the four records look great spread out and the 180g weight feels solid in the hand. Only gripe is that a couple of the inner sleeves were a bit tight, but the sound itself is clean across all four LPs.
