Mit Musik von ABBAs Benny Andersson und Björn Ulvaeus sowie Texten von Tim Rice festigt CHESS the Musical (2025 Broadway Cast Recording) sein Vermächtnis mit dreiunddreißig neuen, dynamischen Orchestrierungen beliebter Songs wie „Anthem“, „Nobody’s Side“ und „Pity the Child“ von einigen der bemerkenswertesten Stars des Broadway: Lea Michele, Aaron Tveit & Nicholas Christopher.
I wasn't expecting the 2CD set to sound this rich, but the new orchestrations give songs like "Anthem" a whole different weight. Disc two alone is worth the purchase for how crisp the vocals come through.
The thirty-three new orchestrations on this 2CD set genuinely surprised me — "One Night in Bangkok" hits harder with the fuller arrangement. Both discs played cleanly with no skipping, and the booklet notes are a nice bonus.
Wasn't sure a 2025 cast recording could top the versions I grew up with, but those thirty-three new orchestrations give the whole thing fresh life. The two discs sound crisp and the booklet is a nice touch for following along.
