Musiikin säveltäjinä ABBA:n Benny Andersson ja Björn Ulvaeus sekä sanoittajana Tim Rice – CHESS the Musical (2025 Broadway Cast Recording) vahvistaa perintöään kolmellakymmenelläkolmella uudella, dynaamisella orkestraatiolla rakastettuihin kappaleisiin, kuten ”Anthem”, ”Nobody’s Side” ja ”Pity the Child”, esittäjinään Broadwayn merkittävimpiä tähtiä: Lea Michele, Aaron Tveit ja Nicholas Christopher.
I wasn't expecting the 2CD set to sound this rich, but the new orchestrations give songs like "Anthem" a whole different weight. Disc two alone is worth the purchase for how crisp the vocals come through.
The thirty-three new orchestrations on this 2CD set genuinely surprised me — "One Night in Bangkok" hits harder with the fuller arrangement. Both discs played cleanly with no skipping, and the booklet notes are a nice bonus.
Wasn't sure a 2025 cast recording could top the versions I grew up with, but those thirty-three new orchestrations give the whole thing fresh life. The two discs sound crisp and the booklet is a nice touch for following along.
