Pięciopłytowy box set śledzący wczesny rozwój Davida w latach 1968 i 1969, poprzez jego domowe dema, sesje radiowe BBC, nagrania studyjne z gitarzystą Johnem ‘Hutchem’ Hutchinsonem oraz eksperymentalną grupą muzyczno-mimową Feathers. DAVID BOWIE - CONVERSATION PIECE zawiera dwanaście wcześniej niepublikowanych utworów/dem.
The BBC radio sessions on disc three are the highlight for me; the stripped-back guitar work with Hutchinson sounds amazing cleaned up. Five discs of 1968-69 material and not one feels like filler.
The home demos across these five discs are the real draw for me; hearing these early takes stripped down is something I didn't know I was missing. The Hutchison studio sessions hold up surprisingly well too, and the whole set feels thoughtfully sequenced rather than just dumped out.
The BBC radio sessions on disc three finally sound like something other than a bootleg, and the Hutch studio tracks show how fast the arrangements tightened up. Five discs of 1968-69 material and nothing feels padded.
