Âm thanh của Blue Note đã được gắn vào hip-hop qua sampling & remixes từ những ngày đầu nhưng Madlib đã nâng tầm khi DJ, nhà sản xuất, rapper & nghệ sĩ đa nhạc cụ này xâm nhập kho báu Blue Note cho kiệt tác năm 2003 của anh Shades of Blue, một album đầy tầm nhìn gồm các bản remix & tái hiện các tác phẩm kinh điển của Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey, Ronnie Foster, Bobby Hutcherson, Wayne Shorter & nhiều hơn nữa. Bản Blue Note Classic Vinyl này được master bởi Kevin Gray và ép trên vinyl 180g tại Optimal.
