The Monkees Made for TV box set bundles the Season 1 soundtrack on LP, 2CD, and Blu-Ray. Here's what each disc offers and who should buy it.

Quick answer

Buy the Monkees Made for TV box set if you want the Season 1 soundtrack across three formats—vinyl for analog playback, CDs for the car or computer, and Blu-Ray for high-resolution audio or video content. Skip it if you only need one copy of the music and don't care about the extras.

What makes this a multi-format set worth considering

Most soundtrack releases give you one disc. This one gives you the same Season 1 music on three different formats, so you can play it on a turntable, a CD player, or a Blu-Ray deck without buying separate editions. That flexibility is the main reason to choose this box over a single-format release.

The set also arrives at a time when Monkees fans are revisiting the band's TV era. The debut single 'Last Train To Clarksville' hit #1 shortly after the show premiered in September 1966, and that early energy is central to the Season 1 soundtrack.

Who will get the most out of the Blu-Ray disc

If you have a Blu-Ray player connected to a home theater system, the Blu-Ray disc is the most versatile part of the package. It can carry high-resolution audio and, depending on the authoring, visual content. However, the catalog does not specify whether the Blu-Ray includes video extras or just audio, so treat that as an open question until you check the tracklist.

For pure audio listening, the CDs are the most convenient for ripping to a computer or phone. The LP is for those who prefer the ritual and sound of vinyl. Having all three means you don't have to choose.

What to check before you buy

Because the set mixes formats, confirm that your equipment covers at least two of them. A turntable plus a CD player is common; a Blu-Ray player is less universal. If you don't own a Blu-Ray player, you're paying for a disc you can't use—unless you plan to upgrade.

Also consider storage. A 1LP plus 2CD plus 1Blu-Ray set takes up more shelf space than a single LP, and the box itself may be thicker than a standard record sleeve. If space is tight, a single-format release might be more practical.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is included in the Monkees Made for TV box set?: The box contains the Season 1 soundtrack on one LP, two CDs, and one Blu-Ray disc. The catalog does not list bonus tracks or video content beyond that, so check the tracklist for specifics.
Is the Blu-Ray audio-only or does it have video?: The product description does not specify. Some Blu-Ray soundtrack discs are audio-only; others include visual extras. Look for a tracklist or back-cover image before ordering if video matters to you. If you need video, confirm with the retailer before buying.
Do I need a Blu-Ray player to enjoy this set?: No—you can play the LP on a turntable and the CDs on any CD player. The Blu-Ray is optional. But if you don't have a Blu-Ray player, you won't be able to access that disc's content.
How does this compare to buying the soundtrack on vinyl alone?: A standalone LP gives you the music on vinyl only. This box adds CDs for convenience and a Blu-Ray for potential high-resolution or visual content. If you only listen on vinyl, the single LP may be enough. Choose the box only if you'll use at least two formats.
Is this a limited edition?: The catalog does not state a limited pressing. Availability may vary, so if you want it, don't wait too long—but there's no confirmed scarcity.
